REVIEWSDAY: Benefit (mini) They're Real! Push-up Liner

I am so excited to finally have this! I have wanted to try it for ages but I am so super picky with eyeliner I thought I would wait for it to come free with ELLE UK before committing to paying £18.50 for it, and to be honest I am glad I waited...

First things first, how super adorable is the packaging above?? I love the little packet, details and all that. I'm not sure if the full-size version comes like that but I would hope so. The ELLE version also came with a little card with instructions on how to get started - v useful.

It is indeed revolutionary, in that I have never ever tried anything like it. I would also kind of say it's rather weird. If you can't already tell, I have not been completely converted to this. Basically, when you open it, there is this slanted rubber nib, and then you squeeze at the base of it to push the gel out of the opening. Although this is weird, I think I could get used to it, and I definitely think this is one aspect that must work better in the full-size version.

Having said that, I found that when I applied it, some of it balled up and rolled off so it was wasted, which would definitely annoy me if I had spent all the money that the full sized one costs. Maybe this isn't such a problem when you get used to using it but I'm not sure, it felt like even if you were really careful there would still be a little bit of wastage.

Growing my eyebrows out, please forgive them
Anyway, what does stay in the nib was pretty nice, it did go on very smoothly and gave a precise line, which for me is very important - you can see in the pic that I do very thin flicks out so I have previously struggled with the gel liners that come in a pot with a brush. I have read of people finding it different to use on your actual eye but I found it really easy in fact, but the aspect of wastage still bothers me.

I would not really want to spend £20 on something that isn't perfect, and that also feels like it could run out quite quickly, so:
Will I carry on using this? Yes.
Will I be buying the full size version? No.
Would I buy it if it was a little cheaper? Probably.

I hope that was helpful, let me know in the comments if you have tried it, especially the full-sized versions! Any recommendations on what to try next? I am tempted by Maybelline's Master Graphic Eyeliner...

Bourjois Rouge Velvet in 07 Nude-ist on my lips (yup my 4th one...)

  1. This review was so honest and helpful - thank you! I have thought about purchasing this a couple of times as I can never seem to get the perfect line but the wastage and cost has made me reconsider and I'll stick with my Maybelline gel liner, if you haven't tried it it's great! By the way LOVE your eyeshadow, what one is it? xx

The eyeshadow is from the Bobbi Brown pastel palette - I think it is called Champagne?

  4. I love that you are honest with your reviews, I saw that you got this free with Elle today on some Facebook deal site and I was kinda thinking about getting it but I don't think i'll bother. I ordered the mascara for my sister for Xmas but I personally wouldn't pay that much for eye liner or mascara .
    Great post as always xox

    1. Aww thank you that's so sweet, we think it's so important! I would say it's worth it if you quite like Elle, but if you're not even bothered about the magazine then yes maybe don't bother. Oooooh the mascara is incredible though :)

  5. Great review! This eyeliner is a product that wouldn't waste £20 on either. It just looks so hard to use! I'll just stick to my liquid eyeliners, haha :) x
