So today I thought I would do a What's in my Bag post! This is mostly because I got a new bag that I love love love and I wanted to show it off. Because the contents of my bag do not always stay the same, I think I may end up doing a few different versions, for different occasions and/or bag sizes - this one is my everyday, work bag. I will do a quick(ish) run through of non-beauty stuff, and then beauty after that, which means I can put off admitting quite how many lip products I keep on me "just in case" until the end.
Bag - New Look (via ASOS)
This is a salmon-pink/orangey bag made of jelly shoe material and it is just incredible. Yes I did say it was my work bag. It smells of jelly shoes and I am obsessed. It's a New Look bag but I actually got it on ASOS, and it was £19.99 which is already very good I think, but I even got it for £8 in the sale. To be brutally honest, it is not hugely practical because it is not a shoulder bag and it has no pockets, but at least it's waterproof. I may feel differently after actually trying to use it for a while but we'll see. At the moment all its sins are made up for by the fact it's made of jelly shoes. Have I said that enough?
Phone - HTC One M8
I love this, it's great. I keep my music on my phone because my iPod is broken so I needed something with lots of space and this has an SD slot, unlike an iPhone.
Earphones - Sony MDR-EX110AP
I only know which these are because I bought them yesterday... These are the not-absolutely-bottom ones, they were about £20 I think, they seem fine (I am not an audio buff)
Keys
These are pretty self-explanatory... The Disney key ring I have had since I was 11, #sentimental.
Notebook - MUJI 6mm lined
Blogging notebook! I keep this on me to jot ideas down in at one end with a post schedule at the other end. I really love how simple this is. MUJI <3.
Diary - Moleskine Weekly Notebook
Moleskine really do make the best diaries. I usually wait until a few weeks into January when they're all in the sale because I am cheap...
Pen - MUJI 0.7mm
I genuinely could rave a lot about this pen, but basically it's just very nice. More MUJI love.
Purse - Accessorize
I love this purse! I was looking for a new one for ages getting thoroughly annoyed at not being able to find one I liked (I didn't want one of those big wallets, but still wanted sections) and then found this last Christmas, and it's perfect. The deer started coming off but one tube of Superglue later (minus a lot of skin) and it was fixed.
Bird pouch - Bonnie and Jackson
This is kind of my mini first-aid kit, I just had painkillers and plasters in here. I can't go anywhere without plasters, all new shoes without fail destroy my feet. Keeping it in a pouch means I just move it between bags and know I always have the necessary. Also having painkillers on you makes you so many friends.
Hand cream - Neutrogena Concentrated Hand Cream
This stuff is life-saving. It is unscented, so it is not a lovely luxurious experience, but just so effective.
Rings - ASOS and H&M
These are genuinely not just to make my photo pretty, I buy multi packs of rings and scatter them around various bags as well as the house, because I always forget to put them on when I'm getting dressed.
Mirror - Damn I Look Good
What's the point of a mirror if it doesn't tell you you look great? Nuff said.
Dry shampoo - Batiste
I have slightly gone off Batiste in general, but dry shampoo for me is an absolute handbag essential, so even though at home I often use something else now, this is still always with me when I'm out. Also usually I use the Blush scent, but it was out of stock. Sad times.
Blotting paper - MUJI
My nose is a genuine oil slick, these are essential because there's only so many times you can powder your nose before it goes super cakey. These ones are from Muji. I used to have the Kleenex ones, and they were really good but the packaging was just crap. These honestly are not quite as good, because they are so papery, but they just look better. I am holding out for Paul & Joe ones though, the king of blotting papers.
Powder - Maybelline Matte Maker Mattifying Powder
Obviously I do also have powder, for things like a proper makeup touch-up if I'm going out after work. At the moment I am using this in 10 Classic Ivory. It's a good colour, and not bad if I am having a not-too shiny day, but I think mineral powders are generally a bit better for me. I find it annoying that this doesn't come with a brush or sponge though, so...
Brush - e.l.f. Kabuki Brush
Big fan of this brush. Although ideally it would be retractable to keep it super-clean, I think it's okay so long as you wash it regularly. It feels like this is quite stiff but I actually really like it to buff in powder well, also if your foundation sometimes gets a bit patchy, this is good at working it all round evenly again. Also it's super cute and diddy.
Mascara - Clinique High Impact Mascara
This I just have because it's a travel-sized version, I think it was free with a magazine at some point. I just have this to top up sometimes at the end of the day, so I don't need anything special, although I do actually really like this, but it's only high-end because it was a freebie.
Concealer - Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer
My handbag often ends up as the place where things I only sort-of like but don't want to throw away go. This concealer would be brilliant if it was lighter, simple as. It's just a bit too yellow for all over everyday for me, but it is still quite nice so I have it as my handbag top-up concealer.
Liquid eyeliner - Eyeko Skinny Liner
I don't wear eyeliner every day but I keep this just in case I want to pop it on later in the day.
Clear lip balm - Burt's Bees Lip Balm (favourited here!)
Best lip balm ever. I use it every day.
"My lips but better" - MaxFactor Lipfinity Lasting Lip Tint in 01, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 07, Clinique Chubby Stick in 07 Super Strawberry
These tend to rotate a bit but as a general rule I have a stain, which I wear everyday, then a non-budging lipstick (the Rouge Edition), and then a tinted lip balm of some sort (sometimes Maybelline Baby Lips instead)
Nineties lip - Maybelline New York Color Drama in Nude Perfection, Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Honey Nectar
This is my muted, smudgy 'nude' kind of colour, usually more brown than I would normally wear, for example if I want to look like I have made an effort but not too much. Because the Color Drama pencil can be a little drying, I pop this lip balm over the top, they work really well together. Instead of these two, sometimes I use my YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in 66 Rosewood instead.
Berry - Revlon ColourBurst Balm Stain in 005 Crush, Maybelline New York Color Drama in 210 Keep it Classy
This like my nineties lip options is for when I want to look like I have made just a bit of an effort, but just give me another option, depending on what I'm wearing or whatever. It's good to have options. These can also be built up a bit more than the nineties one, so I can start delicate and pretty and then ramp it up to pretty dramatic if necessary (it's usually necessary).
Red - Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Grand Cru
I have managed to persuade myself I do not need more than one red lipstick in my bag. I really don't need one to be honest, I think I have used this once when I went on a night out straight from work, but I just find it so reassuring to have it there. I have raved about the Bourjois Rouge Velvets before here, and included another shade here already, oops, but they are just so good, and this is hands down the best red shade I have ever found for my skin.
So that was ridiculously long, sorry, and thank you and well done if you made it through... As you may be able to tell, I like to be prepared - I pack heavy and hoard things, because I like to have everything, just in case, like red lipstick. But at least you know you can always ask me for ibuprofen if you see me.
What do you keep in your bag? Is there anything I have missed?? I would love to know! Also would it be useful to do an evening smaller bag version too?
I don't think there have been enough pictures of my pretty bag |
Love this bag, what a bargain!
